An app helps Orange customers monitor their mobile phone use when travelling

Many Europeans are travelling as we speak and to help them avoid roaming costs, Orange created an Android app called Travel Angel — we’re not sure whether it’s also available for other platforms. As you can imagine, the free to download application monitors your smartphone use, helping you manage the cost. It’s super easy to use, and will even detect the country you’re in to provide you with accurate prices (for calls, texts and data). Moreover, you can also track your spend against your bundle/tariff, and set alerts to be … Read more

Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S III is almost ready?

Well what do you know, Samsung may release the Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III as soon as this August or September. According to SamMobile, which carefully watches “every step Samsung makes,” the Korean giant is already testing the new software and the first results are promising. Of course, they also need to make sure the software works on different versions of the device, whether they use their own Exynos chip or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4. And the good news doesn’t stop there. Samsung Galaxy S II is also… Read more

Mid-end Samsung Galaxy Stellar coming to Verizon?

Verizon may soon get another Samsung smartphone – Galaxy Stellar. The information we got is scarce to say the least, leaving us with a ton of room to speculate. As far as we (don’t) know it could be the already mentioned Samsung Jasper or even Stratosphere 2. The new device is marked as SCH-i410, while the original Stratosphere carried the model number SCH-i405. That doesn’t prove a thing, but it does indicate we’re talking about a mid-end (rather than a high-end) device, which will most likely be offered for $100 … Read more

Microsoft job posting suggest Office for iOS is coming

microsoft-office-for-ipadIt’s been an interesting last few days for Microsoft, as the company reported its first ever quarterly loss. Now, the software giant is rumored to be working on something special, such as the iOS and Android versions of its Microsoft Office suite of apps. These rumblings of a future launch of Office came from a recent job posting that says Microsoft is looking to hire a Software Development Engineer to work with the Office for Mac team. This new engineer will help with the “design, implementation, testing of new feature … Read more

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro is FAST – MDP available for $1,299

S4Pro2Today Qualcomm showed off its quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro, along with the first MDP tablet that has the SoC powerhouse running inside it. The new multi-core processor is essentially the fastest processor we’ve ever come across and we have the benchmarks to show it. The chipset maker held a private event, which talked about understanding benchmarks first and foremost, but not to overshadow our hands-on time with the new S4 Pro (APQ8064). The event was filled with interesting details into the world of benchmarks and SoC architectures, which some at … Read more

Poynt isn’t going out of business, still growing despite creditor protection

Poynt recently filed for protection from creditors under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, leading many (including us) to believe that they were on the verge of actual bankruptcy. According to a clarification made to CrackBerry, the company is doing just fine. “We are continuing to operate, grow and develop. Nothing really has changed,” says CEO Andrew Osis, and claims that the company is adding 20,000 new users each day.
They are still on track to bring a BlackBerry 10 app to the platform on its debut, and we can expect lots of good things from Poynt in the future.
Poynt is available for Android, iOS, BlackBerry smartphones, PlayBook, Windows Phone and Nokia devices.

Hands-on with the TELUS HTC One X

The TELUS version of the HTC One X is no different inside than its white Rogers counterpart, but we thought we’d take a look at the device from an aesthetic standpoint. The darker shade is, in my opinion, a better choice for those who want to keep marks and scratches to a minimum.
The dark grey colour borders on charcoal, and feels perhaps a bit more professional than the white version. Offered exclusively on TELUS, the grey version comes with the same great specs we looked at during the One X review: a 4.7-inch 720p Super LCD2 screen, a 1.5Ghz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, an 8MP camera with ImageSense technology and all the fixin’s.
